Mike Stacy
wins night before 500 at O’Reilly Raceway Park
30 of the best asphalt modified
racers in the country invaded O’Reilly Raceway Park on
Saturday. The day started out with Springfield, OH. Driver, Kyle
Jones, setting fast time at a 23.40, followed by Mike Stacy,
Harold Scott, Veteran Don Skaggs, David Carter and 2009 series
champion, Scott Coe. The dash was won by Kyle Jones, with the
heat race being won by Joe Axsom. Fast qualifier Kyle Jones drew
an 8 for the feature, putting the dash finishing order plus the
top 2 of the heat drawing for 1 thru 8 starting positions. That
put Scott Coe on the pole, with Joe Axsom starting outside. When
the green fell, it was Mike Stacy jumping into the early lead.
The caution flew on lap 4, when Chris Tomasik appeared to have
a flat tire, collecting the cars of Tim Burkett, Nick Diano and
Ross Klingilhofer. Tim Burkett was unable to continue. When
racing resumed, the car on the move was Scott Tomasik, from his
15th place starting position. The 99 of Steve Foster
was also making his way toward the front. Tomasik had made his
way to second, with young David Carter trying high & low to get
around Tomasik. When the checkered flew, it was Mike Stacy,
Scott Tomasik and David Carter the top three. O’ Reilly USA
Modified series returns to action on the high banks of Salem
Speedway on June 6th.
