Nester Top Dog at M-40

M-40 Speedway hosted the O’Reilly USA Modifieds on
Saturday for the Demon Carburetor 50. A great field of 26 cars
made the call to the awesome facility owned by the Brown
Family. Brian Nester was the fastest all day including time
trials with a time of 13.383.
Nester ran away with the Hoosier Racing Tire 6 Fast Dash victory
with 2007 Lincoln Electric Rookie of the Year Contenders Jon
Beech and Jonathan Martin taking Allstar Performance Heat Race
wins. One lucky driver that attempted to make the show at M-40
Speedway was drawn to win a brand new Demon Carburetor courtesy
of Barry Grant, and that driver was Joe Axsom.
When the starting position pill draws were complete local
favorite Mike Zordan of Bangor, MI was on the pole for the Demon
Carburetor 50 A Main event. At the start of the 50 lap feature
event Zordan took the early lead and quickly put a 5 car
advantage on second place and looked to have the car to beat.
On lap 8 the caution would fly allowing the rest of the field to
bunch up taking away Zordan’s large lead and putting fast
qualifier Nester on his rear bumper. At the restart Nester
would challenge Zordan for the top spot coming out of turn 4 and
was able to clench the postion on lap 11. Lapped cars allowed
Nester to break away and eventually take a half track lead on
the field. The caution waved again on lap 42 putting the lead
lap cars nose to tail for the restart. Only a handful laps
remained for the Demon Carburetor 50 and Zordan wanted the win
in front of his fans. With only 3 laps to go Zordan has a shot
to get under Nester going into turn 3 and 4, but would drive it
in a little hard and push up high allowing another Michgan
favorite, Tom Jewell to take over second with proud new papa,
Scott Coe following the footsteps for the third spot. Zordan
has to fight to get down low but was unable to hold on as 2006
O’Reilly USA Modified Champion, Bob Curry made the move on the
final lap to take over 4th and move Zordan to fifth.
The top 5 for the Demon Carburetor 50 had Nester taking his
second win of the 2007 season, Jewell in second with Coe, Curry
and Zordan finishing out the top 5. The Allstar Performance
Hard Charger Award went to Scott Coe for advancing 7 positions
and the LEAF Racewear Hard Luck Award going to Terri Popielarz.
Next Saturday the O’Reilly USA Modifieds will head to Salem
Speedway for the “TOUCHSTONE ENERGY SUMMER SHOOTOUT”. Gates
will open at 1:30pm with Practice at 3:30pm, Time Trials at
5:30pm and Racing at 7:00pm. For more information on the
