SCOTT TAKES O’REILLY

USA ED MARTIN 50

07.07.07…Anderson, IN…Rodney Scott, driving the Circle Track Nationals, Kar Korner sponsored modified, took home the win in the USA Ed Martin 50 at Anderson Speedway Saturday night. “My motor was starting to overheat and I was out front in the clean air….. we are lucky to be here, and I’m not sure what happened to Nester.” Exclaimed Scott. A good crowd braved the heat and high humidity to see some great racing action on the quarter mile high banks of Rick Dawson’s Anderson Speedway.

First up would be qualifying, and with practice times being only in the thirteen’s on the sun baked track, the track record would not be threatened this day. Early qualifier Brian Nester seem to have fast time rapped up with a 12.922 when the last qualifier of the day, “Young Gun” Scotty Tomasik, ran a 12.888, taking fast time from Brian.

In the preliminary events it would be New Castle, IN native Rodney Scott taking the “Six Lap Dash”. Mike Hadley Jr. would hold off “Zero Hero” Tony Dager and Harold Scott for the heat race win and Lincoln Electric Rookie Jonathon Martin would pick up his first win of ’07, claiming victory in the B-main over Jamie Brickley and Jon Beach.

With the sun starting to set and things cooling off just a bit, things were about to get heated up with the start of the O’Reilly USA Ed Martin 50. The draw for the feature would start second and third place qualifiers on the front row…. Rodney Scott pole, Brian Nester outside pole. Fast qualifier, Scotty Tomasik would start third, Mike Hadley fourth. At the drop of the green Scott and Nester ran side by side, neither giving, until Nester finally prevailed from the outside. His lead was short lived, coming off of turn two he slowed drastically causing a chain reaction and cars spinning everywhere. Nester night was done with a broken left rear wheel. Damon Breedlove was also caught up in the wreck and unable to continue. As the race continued Scott would build a commanding lead over second place Scotty Tomasik and Tony Dager in third. The yellow would fly on lap 12 when Chris Neuenschwander spun in turn three, ending his night with engine troubles. With the field closed up this would be Tomasik’s chance at the lead, but Rodney Scott built another commanding lead and won the “O’Reilly USA Ed Martin 50” on the famed quarter mile High Banks of Anderson Speedway.

Scotty Tomasik was second, Tony Dager third, Jeff Weston fourth, and Mike Hadley Jr. rounded out the top five.

The O’Reilly USA Modified Series will next see action on July 21st at Kalamazoo Speedway for the first annual “King of the Mods” $2500 to win race.
