TOMASIK TAKES USA ALLSTAR 50
06.17.06
Mansfield OH

Young Gun Scotty Tomasik took command from the drop of the green and went on to win the Allstar Performance 50 at Mansfield Speedway.
It was a beautiful summer’s day that saw thirty of the mid-west’s best Modifieds show up to do battle at the immaculate Mansfield Speedway in Mansfield Ohio. A large crowd was on hand to see USA Mod action along with the High Powered ISMA Super Modifieds.
Bob Curry would start the night out by capturing his second “Firebottle Fast Time Award” with a time of 17.166 around the ½ mile oval. Local driver Matt Leedy was second with a 17.266 followed by Canton, Ohio driver Doug Meyer with a 17.273. The draw would put fourth place qualifier, TJ Stineman on the pole with Brett Jursik outside. Jursik would out dual Stineman for the win with Brent “Captain” Hook coming home third.
The fast heat saw Indy’s Scotty Tomasik take the win over Rodney Scott, Joe Shannon, Brian Nester and Midvale winner Baldy Baker.
Tony Dager would win the “Last Chance” race to earn a spot in the feature followed by Buddy Camp, Damon Breedlove, Jeff Smith, Mike Hadley Jr. and veteran Scott Baker. With the field now set, drivers now made their last adjustments before the start of the Allstar Performance 50 while some very good cars loaded to go home.
The draw for the feature saw Doug Meyer on the pole with Scotty Tomasik outside followed by Brian Nester, TJ Stineman, Joe Shannon, Matt Leedy, former USA Champ Rodney Scott and local Baldy Baker.
At the start Scotty Tomasik jumped to the lead as Doug Meyer would roll into second holding off TJ Stineman and Matt Leedy. Rodney Scott would battle Baldy Baker and another Young Gun Joe Shannon. Point’s challenger Bob Curry would battle with Shannon and then make slight contact as Joe’s night would end early with motor problems. That contact would be enough to slow Curry’s charge to the front, however the fans were treated to a fine drive by Rodney Scott as he worked hard to pass Baldy Baker, Matt Leedy, and finally TJ Stineman to finish third in the green to checker race. As the laps run down Scotty Tomasik, driving his Penske shod racer, came home the winner followed by Doug Meyer.
Tony Dager was the ”Allstar Performance Hard Charger” of the race with a fine run from 17th to have a Top ten finish at 9th.
The USA Modified Series is off this week as most drivers will travel to Shady Bowl for the “Firecraker 50” Saturday night. The USA Mods resume competition the following week with a double header weekend, first July 1st at Anderson Speedway followed by July 3rd at Angola Speedway.
