Speedway half of the USA double header this past weekend. The USA
Modified Series did however travel to Tom Ish’s Baer Field
Speedway at Ft. Wayne, Indiana. where Michigan’s Bob Curry came
away with the victory.
Twenty eight USA Mods took time trials at the tight cornered half
mile with Brent Hook capturing the “Firebottle Fast Time Award”
with a lap of 18.407 beating out the second fast time of Brian
Nester’s 18.515. Former USA Champ, Rodney Scott would take the 6
Lap Fast Dash over Ft. Wayne’s Pete Wormcastle and Brent Hook.
Heat race action saw Greenfield, Indiana’s Damon Breedlove score
the win over Jeff Weston, Bob Curry, and local Ron Stine. Angola
winner and ’05 USA Champion, Harold Scott would take the checkered
in the B main followed by Corey Setser, Tom Jewel, and Steve
Curry.
The feature draw saw Ron Stine on the pole with Bob Curry outside
followed by Scott Coe, Damon Breedlove, Brent Hook, and Brian
Nester. At the drop of the green Stine and Curry would battle for
the top spot with Curry finally coming out on top. Stine would
start to fade early as Coe and Breedlove would pass for second and
third. Rodney Scott would lose a clutch and retire for the night.
The only yellow would see Colin Toland spin in turn three. He was
able to restart at the tail as Coe and Breedlove would try to take
advantage by closing up on the leader, Bob Curry. Curry would be
just too strong and go on to win his third USA Modified Series
event of the season.
Mike Hadley Jr would take home the “Allstar Performance Hard
Charger Award” by advancing ten spots to finish thirteenth. The
