SCOTT WINS USA KALAMAZOO 50
07.22.06
Kalamazoo MI

A smooth and determine Rodney Scott won the Kalamazoo 50 at Gary Howe’s racey 3/8 mile facility Saturday night.

Mods from the tri-state area would travel Saturday to Kalamazoo, Michigan to compete in the USA Modified Series, Kalamazoo 50. A great field of cars would do their best to triumph in the $1000 to win show. In qualifying local and Super Late Model driver Harry Foote would take the “Firebottle Fast Time Award” with a lap of 14.055 and a speed of 96.051 MPH. Second fast was Bob Curry with a 14.121 followed by Rodney Scott, 14.206 and Brian Nester, 14.229.

The first racing event for the Mods would find New Castle, Indiana and former USA Champ Rodney Scott take the 6lap dash win over Bob Curry and Tim Burkett. Michigan native Mike Luckhurst would take the fast heat over Brent Hook and the other half of the father/son racing team, Steve Curry. Damon Breedlove would take the B-main over Cory Kruzel and Bud Perry.

The draw for the feature put Rodney Scott on the pole with Harry Foote outside followed by Brent Hook, Mike Luckhurst, Brian Nester and Brad Springer. At the start Harry Foote would jump to the lead followed by Scott, Luckhurst, Hook, and Nester. The battle for the lead seemed to be over with the start, as Foote pulled away from Scott. As the front two spots seemed set the battle was for third thru eighth with Nester finally coming out on top after battling for fifty laps to get third over Luckhurst, Curry, and Hook. Back at the front by lap ten Scott was starting to reel in Foote and would roll by on lap fifteen and never look back as the race went green to checker. Rodney Scott would capture his first feature of the 2006 season.

Bud Perry would advance six spots to receive the “Allstar Performance Hard Charger Award” and come home thirteenth.

The USA Modified Series will next be in action on August 4th at Baer Field Speedway, Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
