SCOTT CLAIMS GUITAR FOR THE NORTH
10.24.06
Nashville TN

Rodney Scott claimed his first ever North / South Shootout Victory and the famed “Champion’s Guitar” trophy.
Thirty three “Thundering” Mods were on hand for the Third Annual North / South Shootout held at the Music City Motorplex, Nashville, Tennessee. Overcast skies and cool temperatures were to make for some fast qualifying times. Fort Wayne’s Steve Christman would find his way to the top of the charts with a time of 19.426 to set the “Firebottle Fast Time Award”. Rodney Scott was second fast with a 19.726, Alabama’s Jeff Letson was third with a 19.742, while “Young Gun” Scotty Tomasik was fourth at 19.757. Rounding out the top five, Brad Springer timed in at 19.824. With qualifying set, no preliminary races due to the 125 lap feature, the top eight cars would draw for starting spots. That put the South’s Jeff Letson on the pole with Scotty Tomasik outside, Brad Springer inside second row, the Famed “145” of Bill Melvin outside, Michigan’s Bob Curry inside the third row with last years “Guitar Winner” Dave Stacy outside. Fast qualifier Steve Christman would start inside row four with Rodney Scott outside.
On the start Letson and Tomasik would run side by side battling for the lead. Tomasik would edge out front before running to high in three. Letson would hold the lead until lapped cars would cost him the lead back to Tomasik. At that point Tomasik would put down a blistering pace and stretch out a half lap lead over second place.
The first caution flew at lap fifty four as David Barnhart crashed in turn two ending the Ohio native’s day.
The mandatory fuel stop was scheduled for lap sixty, after on lap sixty three the caution flew for Brad Springer who went hard into the fourth turn wall. As laps wound down Andy Britain and Michael House got together to bring out the yellow on lap 102
Each time Tomasik would stretch his lead back out, this time over Rodney Scott who had now worked his way to second. Then on lap 106 Tomasik day would come to an end as engine problems side lined the Indy Racer with just nineteen laps to go.
Scott, now leading was starting to get pressure from Bob Curry and Steve Christman when on lap 113 Christman got caught up in lap traffic and spun. With now only a hand full of laps remaining Curry would pressure Scott right to the finish line. But it was Scott’s day for the win with Bob Curry second. Tony Dager, third earned the “Allstar Hard Charger Award”. Mike Hadley Jr. was fourth and Jeff Letson rounded out the top five.
