SCOTT SIZZLES IN USA ANGOLA 50
07.08.06
Angola IN

Harold Scott, the elder of the Scott racing family, won the USA Modified Series event at Angola Speedway Saturday night. “This feels really good…I’ve struggled this year…but I think we figured it out now!” exclaimed a jubilant Scott.
The day saw thirty five Modifieds show up to race at Dick Poe’s great 3/8 mile facility located just north of Angola, Indiana. With only twenty four spots open, and the top sixteen locked in, time trials would be extremely important. New Haven, Indiana’s Steve Minich Jr. would leave no doubt in anyone’s mind that he was the fastest, with a lap of 14.819 to capture the “Firebottle Fast Time Award”. Brad Springer was second fast with a 14.940 followed by Jason Dietsch, Harold
Scott, Chad Poorman, and Brian Nester.
Brad Springer would take the six lap Dash, while Rick Coe would have a fine performance by winning the Fast heat. Bud Adams and Kale Asztalos would win the B-Mains to earn their starting spots for the 50 lap Main Event.
With the field now set, the draw would put Angola regular Chad Poorman on the pole with Harold Scott outside followed by Jason Dietsch Brad Springer, Rick Coe, USA Point’s leader Tim Burkett, Brian Nester and Fast Time Steve Minich Jr.
At the drop of the green Poorman would charge into the lead with Scott hot on his tail, but the first caution would fly as Bob Curry would cut down a tire and be done for the night, ending his shot at the points lead. As the green flew again Harold Scott pressured Poorman for the lead, making an inside move and racing Poorman side by side , but just not able to pull by. On lap fifteen Scott made one more run on Poorman, inside, side by side, but this time able to inch by to take the lead. Poorman would retire on lap twenty nine with engine problems as Harold Scott continued to take the win followed by Brad Springer. Steve Minich Jr worked his way to third, followed by Todd Griggs and Brent Hook.
Jeremy Wallen would advance eleven spots, twentieth to ninth to earn the “Allstar Performance Hard Charger Award”.
The USA Modified Series will see double duty next with Toledo Speedway on Friday July 14th and Baer Field Speedway on July 15th.
