CURRY WINS USA IRP
05.28.06
Clermont IN

Michigan’s Bob Curry made it two in a row Saturday night by capturing the annual “Night Before The 500” modified race at Indianapolis Raceway Park. It was a packed house, and a beautiful evening for racing.
Thirty Mods were on hand to do battle at the popular 5/8 mile facility located just west of the famed Indy Brickyard in Clermont; IN. Qualifications would find Bob Curry capturing the “Firebottle Fast Time Award” with a blistering 23.661.
In the Six Lap Dash it would be Curry over former USA Champion Rodney Scott, Brent Hook, Scott Coe, Jeff Weston, and the 11N of Brian Nester.
The fast heat saw Veteran Don Skaggs out duel Indy’s Scotty Tomasik, Dave Stacy, and Tim Burkett, for the win. B-main would find Ohio’s Matt Leedy taking the win over Mike Hadley Jr., Bobby Dager, and Damon Breedlove. With the preliminary events complete the stage was set for an exciting 40 lap feature.
Enon, Ohio’s Dave Stacy drew the pole with Rodney Scott outside the front row. Second row would be Brian Nester, with Scott Coe outside. USA Point’s leader Tim Burkett would start third row inside with Jeff Weston. Bob Curry and Scott Tomasik would round out the fourth row. At the drop of the green Stacy and Scott would do battle for the lead, side by side, before a relentless Dave Stacy would take over the point over Scott. As laps rolled by Rodney would challenge Stacy for the lead and on lap 10 take the lead. As lap 20 came Bob Curry would start his move to the front on the low side passing Nester, Coe, and Weston before waging a hard battle with Stacy and then Scott to take the lead by lap 30 and pull away for the win. It was Curry’s second win of the season and two in a row coming off a fine performance at Kalamazoo Speedway the week before.
Dan Frazier took home the “Allstar Performance Hard Charger Award” coming from the 22nd position to 12th.
The USA Modified Series moves to Flat Rock Speedway this Saturday, June 3rd for the Citgo 50.
