BREEDLOVE BEST IN ED MARTIN 75
07.06.06
Anderson IN

Greenfield’s Damon Breedlove led flag to flag to take the USA Modified Series, Ed Martin Auto Group 75 at Anderson Speedway Saturday night. It would be the first win of the ’06 season for tour veteran and his crew.
The afternoon would start off with Modifieds showing up from as far away as Kansas. Chris Willard, from Olathe, Kansas, would make the long hall to try and tame the quarter mile high banks of Anderson Speedway. Practice saw Mike Thurman with another blown engine. Times were just in the low thirteen’s as teams fought the heat to try and find speed.
Qualifying saw Brad Springer take the ”Firebottle Fast Time Award” with a lap of 12.790 over Noblesville’s Jeff Weston with a 12.792. Third was “Young Gun” Mike Hadley Jr. with a 12.831 and rounding out the top four was Michigan’s Bob Curry with a 12.893.
In preliminary events, Damon Breedlove would take the 6 lap Dash over Hook, Weston, Springer and Hadley. Curry was a DNF with a broken suspension part that they were trying to fix for the feature.
Fast Heat action saw Ft Wayne’s Scott Coe take the win over Avon Indiana’s Scotty Tomasik with Manny Aguilar third and Ohio’s Bud Camp Fourth. The second heat saw Don Skaggs triumph over Tom Jewell and Terri Popirlarz.
The field was now set for the Ed Martin 75 on the”High Banks” of Anderson Speedway. Damon Breedlove would start on the pole with Manny Aguilar second, Bob Curry third and Scott Coe fourth. Brent Hook and Brad Springer would head up the third row, with the drop of the green just moments away.
After a dive by with all USA racer displaying the American Flag in a salute to our country the field got the green from USA Flagman Steve “Chicken” Little. Breedlove and Aguilar would run side by side until the back stretch where Breedlove would take the lead followed by Aguilar, Coe, Curry, Hook, and Springer. With the caution flag flying for a couple of spins most everyone had settled in and content to burn some laps. Aguilar started to fade however and Coe, Curry, Hook and Springer needed by. While battling Coe made incidental contact with Aguilar spinning him out in turn four bringing out the yellow and sending Coe to the tail. On the re-start Aguilar would finally give up as Curry, Hook and Springer, one by one, made the high side pass. Curry and Hook would set their sites on Breedlove as the laps started winding down.
Brian Nester coming from fifteenth starting spot had now caught the crowds attention as he had found the high groove and was passing cars at will….inside ten laps to go he had reached the nose to tail cars of Breedlove, Curry, and Hook. To the outside of Hook, rolled up to Curry, half way there when the yellow came out for the spinning cars of Tony Dager and Nester’s team mate, and USA Point leader Tim Burkett. Scoring placed Nester third where he would finish as laps ran out and Damon Breedlove would win the Ed Martin 75, followed by Bob Curry.
Nester would receive the “Allstar Hard Charger Award” for advancing the most positions on his exciting run to the front.
The USA Modifieds will be at Angola Speedway July 8th.
